Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
My husband is screaming at the television.

Football is not good for his blood pressure.

Hey there my lovelies. How goes it?

I continue to be MIA but, as always you are in my heart. Case in point -

I was teasing my husband - a favorite pass time of mine - when the remote control fell off the back of my sofa and hit me on the head.

Mr. Tart - Ha, and god smites you. You have been smited. Smited? Smote? Smoted?

TTT - Smut?

Mr. Tart - Smut? You've been smut?

TTT - Yeah that will be much funnier when I retell this to my flist later.

**********

A friend gave me the audio versions of the HP books - British Versions. Happiness is a friend who's just as obsessive as you are.

**********

Speaking of my dear Harry, I stumbled upon a pair of refrigerator magnets for Slytherin and Gryffindor. Anyone know where I might find Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw? I've been on the hunt for HP paraphernalia in various bookstores for many months now. I can't tell you what I'm looking for, just the sort of odds and ends only someone like me - an probably you - can appreciate. Anyone else find themselves doing that? If so, where do you browse? I tried Ebay but since I'm not looking for anything in particular (except the magnets which I already tried looking for BTW) - browsing on Ebay can be taxing.

**********

I have a very odd request - Does anyone eat Indian food regularly? Can you give me pointers? What are some different dishes? How should things be eaten? When should I ask for chutney? What is chutney? What are some of your favorite dishes? Some friends want me to take them to a local Indian restaurant and are expecting me to take the lead in ordering and I have no clue. As always, I count on you to save me.

re: the paraphernalia, i saw those magnets at Borders, and i'm pretty sure they only made gryffindor & slytherin ones...grr

i got one of those bust-ups & a set of 4 house bookmarks - rather flimsy but cute - from borders...ooh, & a wall scroll! those came in each house, plus marauder's map (that's the one i have), voldie picture, &...something else. borders def did way better than old navy in terms of merchandise this time around

hot topic also had tons & tons of stuff - like a dozen different shirts, plus posters & jewelery & all manner of odds & ends - including, if they're the ones i think you're talking about, keychain versions of those house magnets (but i know they had all 4, plus a general hogwarts one). if you go to hottopic.com & search 'harry potter' you get like 100 results - and some of the shirts are now on clearance!

i got into the whole trading card thing & bought whole sets on ebay. those are definitely plentiful. umm...ooh! i got a bunch of poster/sticker/coloring/etc-type books from past movies, some of which i'm selling. if you'd want something along these lines i can check what i have & give it to ya for dirt cheap ;)

ooh, & puzzles! how could i forget? b&n, borders, & target all had those lenticular (read: seasick-inducing) 3D puzzles...and i now own 3 of them. *sigh* i have no self control

sag = spinach
paneer = cheese cubes

Thus, sag paneer is cheese cubes in spinach sauce. Very tasty. (Happens to be my favorite dish.)

Naan is a flatbread. Also very tasty. Unless you're with someone with a gluten allergy, you're unlikely to go wrong ordering a plate of naan to start.

As with Chinese restaurants, sharing of entrees is generally encouraged. Also as in Chinese restaurants, many Indian joints have stellar buffets.

Also, lots of Indian places offer combo dinners for 2-4 people, where they've done all the decidin' for you already. That may be the way to go if none of you are familiar with the cuisine.

Hope this helps, and that all y'all have a great meal!

Oh, and as for HP paraphenalia, I have been reminding myself every couple of hours all weekend that I have absolutely no use for a plushie book, and that it would likely turn into an impromptu dog toy within hours of arrival, but I want it anyway. Dammit.

Chutney is usually served with poppadams which are the indian version of tortillas but crispy and may be spicy, they usually come with 2-3 dips or chutneys to use. The most popular is mango chutney and I love it, its like a savory jam or jelly with bits in. This is a starter mostly.
Some popular dishes are chicken korma which is a creamy mild curry, chicken tikka masala which is chicken cooked in a slightly spicier sauce. ( my american friends like this one), prawn bhuna which has a tomato based sauce ( i think). Rice is usually basmati and is served as a side, I prefer a Naan bread as my side tho'. Vindaloo is hot and can be extremely hot so much so that I can't eat it! If you like beer Indian beer is pretty good, especially Tiger or Kingfisher. Hope this helps.

TTT + Mr. Tart = Adorable.

And the comments are making me want to try some Indian food as well. Too bad there aren't any places that I know of in our area...
